REVO DJ Interview with AMS
Hailing from Quito, the capital of Ecuador, REVO DJ is a world-renown deep house DJ and producer. He began his music career at 16, as the drummer for a rock band. He quickly fell in love with Deep House, Progressive House, and Trance Music. REVO switched gears and moved from scene to scene, creating a name for himself in DJing for mobile, nightclub, radio station, and corporate events. Known for his ability to remix songs live with almost no special equipment at the time, REVO quickly rose to become the #1 DJ in his home country for several years.
In 2001 he moved to the USA and honed his skills in music production. His love for the latest technology lead him to being a consultant and performer for the most respected brands in the game. REVO DJ has demoed gear for manufacturers such as Native Instruments, Ableton, and Korg at international events like the Las Vegas DJ Show, Mobile Beat, and DJ Times Expo.
REVO is also no stranger in the studio. Since 2010 he’s released several critically-acclaimed tracks, such as “Like an Angel”. In 2014, REVO DJ teamed up with TercerMundo to produce Solo Baila, a track that catapulted them to the top of the Ecuadorian charts. In turn, they received 2014’s Best Electronic Dance Artist and Best Duo- Collaboration awards.
Tribute to Home
REVO’s next hit, a tribute to his home called “Ecuador” was featured on sites like Beatport and his 2015 album, “Elements”, proved to the world that his music is constantly evolving. He’s stated in interviews that he stays satisfied by doing what he enjoys, regardless of the monetary award. Crowds that appreciate the music motivate him way more than the almighty dollar.
As somebody intimately involved in the latest electronic music technology, its always intriguing to hear about REVO DJ’s current gear of choice. His production environment consists of Ableton Live, Native Instruments Komplete and Waves’ mastering plug-ins. For controllers, he enjoys using Native Instruments’ Maschine and the Arturia Spark.
In the DJ world, REVO DJ loves using the industry-standard Pioneer CDJ2000Nexus2 CD/Media players and a DJM900Nexus2 mixer. For monitoring, being an audiophile has been a huge influence on him. REVO is an avid fan of the speaker scientists known as Bose. He uses the Bose F1 Flex Array and Sub, along with their QC25 headphones. He is a firm believer that the sound in your ears should match the sound the audience is hearing.
As a performer, REVO DJ is adamant to bring a full sensory experience to his audience. This is why he uses Chauvet lights. On this shoot AMS used Motion Orb, Colorstrip, Derby X, Swarm 5FX, and Gigbar 2 lights from Chauvet.
There’s good reason REVO DJ is one of Ecuador’s top DJs and why he’s known as a taste-maker in the industry. His passion for making original music and moving the crowd with fresh on-the-fly remixes has set him apart as a premier player in the game.
