Nick Brodeur- Young and Happy

16 Year old singer-songwriter Nick Brodeur discusses influences, gear and his unwavering love for all things music.

Meet Nick Brodeur

When it comes to music, nearly every artist envisions traveling around the country and pursuing their dreams of becoming a star.  For 16-year-old singer-songwriter Nick Brodeur that dream is quickly becoming a reality. With a well-versed upbringing on all things rock n’ roll, the young and talented musician is making a name for himself in his quest to blend pop and blues.

Brodeur grew up in a musically inclined household.  At a young age, he was exposed to the best of the best by his father, pulling influence from greats like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath, with his all-time favorite artist being Jimi Hendrix.

“I don’t think I go a day without listening to Jimi Hendrix,” said Brodeur over the phone from Los Angeles where he’s been living for two years now. “His music is so powerful. He’s the god of the guitar, his work is like the Bible . . . it’s endless. There’s always going to be that kid discovering Jimi Hendrix, sparking that light inside that could inspire him to be the next Jimi Hendrix.”

Brodeur hopes to take that love of electric guitar and psychedelia and blend it with modern day pop music.

“There are not too many electric guitar players in pop music right now”, explained Brodeur.  He cited modern day guitar playing pop stars like Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran as a similar style to what he’s aiming to do.

“The acoustic guitar will always be a thriving instrument.  I’d like to merge Hendrix into that, try to create my own sound where I can take that old school style that just keeps you up and happy… bringing the psychedelic and all that stuff and merging it with acoustic.”

UR Dumb

Last year Brodeur released a music video for his song “UR Dumb”. It is a catchy acoustic track with a mesmerizing beat and chorus. This later fades out into a Hendrix-channeled electric guitar solo, demonstrating that very balance Brodeur spoke of earlier. “We filmed it down in Miami at Gulfstream, Hallandale and there just happened to be a fair going on so we shot some stuff there, it was a lot of fun,” he recalled.

Brodeur was born in New York but lived most of his life in Miami before later moving out to LA at the age of 14. Since then, he’s played iconic West Coast venues like the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood, Chain Reaction in Anaheim, DiPiazzas in Long Beach, and the Light House and Mozambique at Laguna Beach.

Playing at the world famous Whiskey a Go Go has been a dream come true for Brodeur.  He rattled off 10 of his favorite bands who have ever played there from Metallica to Guns N’ Roses, Van Halen and of course, Hendrix.

“You name it, they’ve played there,” he said excitedly. “I’ll get on stage to play the show and sometimes I can’t even believe I’m really there. It’s so much fun hanging out with the people after too. It’s just a lot fun, there’s really no other way to describe it.”

Nick’s Gear

Brodeur has two go-to guitars he uses for shows and recording. The first is a Mexican Made Stratocaster with two Fender Alnico humbucking pickups. The other is a black and white Mexican EVH modeled Stratocaster; both of which he plays through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp. When asked about a dream guitar, his response was perfectly fitting. “Fender has that Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster, I’d love to own that,” he answered without hesitation.

As for the future, Brodeur plans to keep growing his brand through social media. He continues to play lots of shows throughout California and the NY/NJ area in an effort to continue getting his name out there.

“At the end of the day music is entertainment.  The people are supposed to be having fun, we’re supposed to be having fun, it’s supposed to be fun for all and that’s why music is the best thing. It’s fun for all and it brings everyone together,” he concluded.
