Here is a quick look back at the top gear of 2017. We had new gear in all major categories and will call out the biggest hits. A new Jimi Hendrix reissue, a version 2 of a best selling speaker line, and new standalone MPC units. 2017 was a great year for gear. Let’s take a look back with our first award winning product.
Top Gear Guitar: Fender Jimi Hendrix Monterey Stratocaster
2017 brings us another Jimi Hendrix reissue strat. This time Fender pays homage to the Monterey Pop Festival and the guitar Jimi hand painted and used for the festival. Unlike other Monterey strat reissues that were previously released, this one fell in price point that most could afford. This guitar is made in the Ensenada factory. 40+ years after his death, Jimi Hendrix, his music and guitars are still as relevant as ever. Check out the Monterey strat here.
Top Gear P.A.: QSC K.2 Series Speakers
How do you make a top selling speaker better? Give it more power and updated processing power. QSC dropped the K.2 series back in April. Since the release, they have been a top seller just like the OG K series. The new advanced DSP helps dial in your system to what application fits your performance. Since the release of the K.2 series, QSC has released the K Cardioid Sub. This new sub matches up perfectly with the K.2 series speakers and offers features not found on your traditional subs. QSC continues to innovate and make solid speakers. Check out the K.2 series here.
Top Gear Production: AKAI MPC X and MPC Live
It’s been years since we saw a standalone MPC unit. 2017 brought us not one, but two new MPC’s. The MPC Live and MPC X were both announced in January. It did take some time to get them into the public’s hands, but as soon as they did, they were instant classics. Two different sizes and price points, but one thing they have in common is the MPC legacy. Check out the MPC X and MPC live here.
With all the great gear we saw in 2017, we cant wait to see what 2018 brings. Tune into our NAMM 2018 coverage to see more new gear.
