In The Beginning…
Yngwie Malmsteen is in my humble opinion, one of the most well-known names in the world of guitar. He is the head of shred! Originally hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, Yngwiestreamlined the neo-classical shred style. This is a genre that has found a home perfectly in the world of rock and roll. One funny aspect, however, is that Yngwie wasn’t always into the guitar. In fact, as a young boy, Yngwie originally had no interest in music at all. September 18th, 1970 that all changed after he saw a TV special on the late Jimi Hendrix. Which, I mean, come on who wouldn’t be moved by Jimi’s playing. So from one legend to another, Jimi inspired Yngwie. That Seven-year-old boy watched in awe as Hendrix blew away the audience only to finish things off by setting his guitar on fire! It was on that fateful day that Mr. Hendrix died, that the guitar-playing incarnation of Yngwie was born.
It is no surprise that Yngwie is one of the most well-known guitarists, he has pioneered a style of music. Additionally, In 2009, Time magazine rated Malmsteen as among the 10 greatest electric guitar players of all time. Alongside these accomplishments, he has a career that spans over four decades and twenty albums. Combine that with a signature guitar and a larger than life personality and you have Yngwie. But let’s get back to this Neo-Classical Shredding… what is it? It is a genre of rock that draws influence from classical composers the likes of Bach, Vivaldi, and Paganini. They are masters who birthed compositions that are still shaping music today! What do you get when you combine the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Vivaldi? You get Yngwie Malmsteen.
Still one of the foremost and most formidable masters of the Neo-Classical genre, Yngwie relies on a guitar that can keep up with him. He has always done what he does best with a Fender Stratocaster. Ah yes, the Fender Strat. A guitar that is steeped in history and one of the most popular guitars in the world. Seems like a perfect fit, no? Any guitar players out there who aspire to shred like the great Yngwie can check out his signature model. This guitar is modeled to his exact specifications. And yes, I mean all specifications, including three YJM Fury pickups and of course the trademark scalloped fingerboard. I mean come on, fender couldn’t really make a signature model for him without the scalloped fingerboard. For those unaware, Malmsteen’s dazzling neo-classical technique is largely made possible by scalloped the fingerboard. The fingers make contact only with the strings and not with the wood of the fingerboard itself. This Stratocaster is a distinctively designed model for one of the world’s most distinctive Swedish Strat masters.
We also were lucky enough to get the first inside info on a brand new 30th Anniverary Signature guitar that fender is releasing.
